Painted panels and paint mixed to a code are made to match your car exactly, so we need the correct paint code, along with your registration, before we make or dispatch anything. This page helps you find it.
What the paint code looks like
A paint code is usually a short combination of letters and numbers, for example LC9X or 2Z2Z, and is sometimes shown alongside a colour name. It is set by the vehicle manufacturer and identifies the exact shade and finish your car left the factory with.
Where to find the code plate or sticker
- On most Volkswagen Group, Ford and Vauxhall cars, the plate or sticker is on the door shut pillar, on the driver's side, visible when the door is open.
- On BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars, it is usually under the bonnet, on the slam panel at the front or on a strut top.
- On some models it is inside the tailgate, or in the spare wheel well under the boot floor.
The plate often lists several codes together, for the paint, trim and other build options, so look for the one marked as the paint or colour code rather than a chassis or option code.
What will not show the code
Your V5C registration certificate does not show the paint code. It records the colour as a general description, such as blue or silver, which is not precise enough to mix or match paint.
If you cannot find it
If you cannot locate the plate or sticker, or it has worn away, give us your registration and we look up the code from the build data for your car before we make or dispatch anything.
